2. World Shakespeare Bibliography Online is well organized and easy to navigate. 5.00
  • It is admirably clear and quick to use and provides a wealth of information.
  • It's very straightforward and helpful. In fact, one student has told me that at first she thought she must be doing something wrong because it was so simple.
  • Very easy and simple to search. Has the added advantage that one can save one's searches on a list on the site and can then eamil them to one's self in a variety of formats.
  • well designed screens and menus
3. World Shakespeare Bibliography Online is up-to-date with current information. 5.00
  • It leaves MLA for dead in its coverage and amount of information and is well open to any correction.
  • Much more material than the MLA index on essays and particularly on book chapters. The MLA doesn't deal in computer material either, which is something I find myself looking for more and more.
  • It is THE most complete and current bibliography of Shakespeare. It covers not only printed scholarship but also performances and is very good at recording both scholarly reviews and theatrical reviews
4. World Shakespeare Bibliography Online scope and content is appropriate. 4.75
  • As above, its coverage is superb and provides a great range of material. I am especially pleased with the depth of the annotations and with the coverage of performance.
  • Definitely. Shakespeare in performance is one of my areas of interest, and this is the best place I've found to get information on what's onstage where.
  • Shakespeare is my main subject of research and teaching. This is it.
  • While not a Shakesperian, I do a good bit of work in the field. It is quite helpful, and
5. World Shakespeare Bibliography Online will assist Student classroom and research projects. 5.00
  • It gives so much wider access to the range of theatrical and scholarly activity in the field than any other source. It is essential.
  • My students in Shakespeare classes like the idea of writing about film versions, but they often get frustrated tracking down scholarship on these films. This source makes finding that sort of writing much simpler.
  • They really can't do their work properly without it.
  • Students in my survey class regularly conduct research on Shakespeare and would find this quite useful.
7. World Shakespeare Bibliography Online will assist faculty research projects. 4.75
  • I am greatly interested in issues of performance and in the history of Shakespeare criticism. This is unbeatable for both.
  • See my answer to 4 above.
8. Departmental funds are available for World Shakespeare Bibliography Online subscription. 4.00
  • This is something we can't do without, especially now that the annual Shakespeare Quarterly bibliography will no longer appear in print.
  • I really don't know, but English and Theatre are the departments which will make the greatest use of this.
  • Don't know
9. I would attend a World Shakespeare Bibliography Online specific training session. 3.00
  • Not necessary.
  • I have been using it since its beginnings, but I suppose I might learn some new tricks.
10. World Shakespeare Bibliography Online should be added to UL e-Resources collection. 5.00
  • It is vital.
  • Definitely would fill a gap in our resources.
  • I must state this as strongly as I can. 2005 will be the last year the World Shakespeare Bibliography appears in printed form. If we do not get this then from now on no user of the UL resources will be able to make use of the current World Shakespeare Bibliography. I cannot believe that any responsible university library would this to happen.

2. World Shakespeare Bibliography Online is well organized and easy to navigate. 4.30
  • I don't understand why a lot of the results for "shakespeare" came up in various languages. It was easy enough to navigate, but I don't understand the foreign language aspect. Once i clicked on the link, it said the language was English though.
  • Found exactly what I was looking for quickly and easily
  • I was a little confused about what goes in what category, how to get the the best results from my search, but I did eventually find it!
  • I have never seen such a wealth of easy to attain information regarding Shakespeare.
  • simple search format
  • I had no problem whatsoever finding what I was looking for, the bibliography is well constructed and an easy source being that it is on the internet.
  • I was easily able to find references and cross-references for each topic.
  • It was easy to find my way through the website.
  • It was extremely well organized and first search returend many useful results.
  • With the searches for titles and keywords present at the top of the website, this makes it easy to navigate.
  • The design is simple, and it is easy to see, neatly catagorized.
  • it was easy to use to search, but i oculd not figure out how to view the article- i think i would need more time to play with it.
  • The first time I used the database (2-28-05), there was a problem with the program so it was not processign the keywords I typed in. Since then the problem, has been fixed, adn today I used the database with ease.
  • I was not sure what to think of the home page, with its limited choices of search items. Once I went to the advanced search page, with the numerous categories for searching, it became easier to use.
  • I think that this was the most benefical of the sources that I viewed. It seemed so easy to navigate and I had no trouble getting to what I was looking for.
  • I found it easy to find the information I was looking for.
3. World Shakespeare Bibliography Online is up-to-date with current information. 4.35
  • I am no expert on Shakespeare, so obviously wouldn't know if all of the information was accurate, but i am assuming (and i hope!) that this is up-to-date.
  • Material is appropriate and up to date
  • found all the latest issues that I wanted
  • I found a movie from 1998
  • There are plenty of new and interesting thoughts and speculations.
  • not that Shakespeare needs to be updated often, but the info on current works about him and his work, and its accuracy seems excellent
  • Being that the bibliography contains dissertations, I feel it gives a more up to date approach seeing the research of others.
  • In one database it was possible to find almost all the citings I had found from other sources, plus many more that were more focused on the exact topic.
  • Since my search was narrow I cannot say the whole catalog is up-to-date, but in my area of interest it returned many new results.
  • Information up to 2004 enables students to find updated information on numerous texts and such; very helpful.
  • Some sources are new. But about some of the information I am not sure whether there are later versions exist or not.
  • there were a lot of articles that i wanted to view and i did not find when using other search sites.
  • I looked up a film, and there were recent publications listed
  • This source seemed to have a great range of dated resources. I think this would be a very through source when refering to Shakespeare.
  • I have already taken a Shakespeare class and I looked up some past information that I was already familiar with and I found it to be up to date
4. World Shakespeare Bibliography Online scope and content is appropriate. 4.40
  • I am taking a Shakespeare class, and plan on taking more, so of course this site will come in handy.
  • The database allows for a narrow focus of Shakespeare mediums.
  • Helps me to find all that I needed for my classes
  • I am studying Shakespeare, this is all about Shakespeare
  • I am a psychology major.
  • Hello, English major here!
  • I feel that this online resource is most helpful due to my enrollment in two courses that require that you not only read Shakespeare's work, but write about it.
  • It is the only truly comprehensive source that I have been able to locate for Shakespearian studies.
  • Being an English major, any literature resource is helpful to my overall education.
  • It dose not pertain to my area of study but it is useful in General Eduaction classes.
  • Language Arts has a strong Shakespeare presence; always helpful to teach as well.
  • For the students whose major are English Literature, this site is very useful, especially for Shakespearen study.
  • it's the perfect site for this class. there was a lot of relavent articles.
  • I find it intesting, and I will use it agian
  • Shakespeare is so important in english education(to me) and this is so complete in the various topics concerning Shakespeare.
  • Future Language Arts Teacher
5. World Shakespeare Bibliography Online will assist Student classroom and research projects. 4.40
  • I find it easiest to use online sources rather than books, because I am part of the "technology generation" and think it's not only easier, but faster to use online sources.
  • I found the answers to my extra credit search
  • This is an undisputably awesome source of information and reference.
  • I have to take ol' Willie sometime, and I also bump into his contemporaries, imitators, and emulators--this would help with all three groups
  • I would find it most valuable and would definately utilize this resource to complete assignments because I could easily access information as well as search through material easier to find the info I'm looking for.
  • Many times my topics for research papers have been limited by the difficulty of locating citations for specific topics. This database greatly increases the range of choices.
  • I am currently taking Shakespeare: Early Plays. This e-resource will help me on an assigned paper. It will also help me to better understand Shakespeare and the plays I am studying.
  • Yes, many of the relevant results could be of use in an up comming writting assignmnet.
  • Anything to do with research and ideas, this website will greatly assist.
  • I am searching for the information about the women's role in Shakespreare's plays, especially Titus. It seems this site fits for my research paper.
  • For the paper we are writing it is good- anyone should be able to find something from iths site that they could use.
  • It could be used to help write a variety of research papers that are english/history based
  • Only because I am not majoring in Shakespeare, and do not expect to have any more classes requiring research on his works.
  • I think that when researching Shakespeare this would be absolutely benifical. For people studing in this field this would be a great reference.
  • I wish that this would have been available when I was taking Shakespeare: Mature plays
  • it is always useful to have such a large and direct database for shakespeare
7. I would attend a World Shakespeare Bibliography Online specific training session. 2.84
  • I think it's rather self-explanatory, and don't feel that I would benefit from a long session.
  • A training session may be helpful, but I think more is learned from trial and error.
  • not enough time but still a good source for study
  • It could prove to be very useful
  • I don't find it difficult to use.
  • I don't think much needs to be explained, but it couldn't hurt
  • Yes, I feel that the training session would inform students better how to use the site to get the most out of the information.
  • This database is a valuable tool and is well worth the time to learn how to use its full potential.
  • Attending such a session would probably be of little benefit to me regarding my degree.
  • I would not attend because I an familiar with searching online databases.
  • Graduating this year, but this would be helpful for others just beginning their program.
  • it would be useful but i would only go if it was required for the class.
  • It is easy to use
  • It is not needed for my present, nor expected future, courses of education.
  • The site is very easy to use without the additional training.
  • I used to be a computer science major. I have no need for such instructions
8. World Shakespeare Bibliography Online should be added to UL e-Resources collection. 4.80
  • In writing papers, I find it very useful to have a very broad list of sources. I think it's easier to use online resources than regular books, and would prefer to use this.
  • valuable source for any english major
  • We need this. It is a great resource. Enough said.
  • He is "the Bard", we base whole classes on him and his work alone, and for that alone this database is a necessity
  • With so many Shakespeare courses and so many students enrolling in them, I think it would definately be a very valuable resource for students to have available to them. Shakespeare students should have the advantage to learn as much as they can in every way possible, just as other students in other fields of study have several different resources available.
  • This database brings the original Shakespeare, and his times, alive in 2005! We need the resources for a fresh look at the process of the "Enlightenment" - and Shakespeare was a part of that process. Without enlightenment, what is our future going to be like? Research in "humanity" is vital. I hope that the University of Akron will continue its commitment to "Enlightenment".
  • An extensive amount of resources available to students at The University of Akron would only better our education.
  • It would be useful to the campus community as a great place to start most any Shakespeare orented reasearch.
  • Current, informative, easy to navigate...perfect for learning and understanding Shakespeare.
  • There are many students who are interested in Shakespeare's works besides the students whose major are English Literature. I think it is useful to link this site with the UA University Libraries' e-Resources Collection.
  • it would be a great help for the paper we have to write in the shakespeare class.
  • Had it been available for my previous classes in Shakespeare, it would have been greatly used.
  • I am very impressed with this resource and I think that it would be extremely benifical for the students studying any Shakespeare related field at the University of Akron.
  • The more resources that are available, the better. I would definitely use it.
  • with the shrinking amount of physical resources, and money for such sources, an electrical version is quicker, less expensive to maintain, and more convenient

Librarian Survey Statements Score (1-5)
2. World Shakespeare Bibliography Online is well organized and easy to navigate. 4.00
  • Easy to use. Students need to be directed to the "Advanced Search" accessto learn how to use limiters properly (such as the language limiter)
3. World Shakespeare Bibliography Online is up-to-date with current information. 4.00
  • Controlled subject headings would be helpful. It does NOT surpass the MLA database in accuracy.
4. World Shakespeare Bibliography Online scope and content is appropriate. 4.00
5. World Shakespeare Bibliography Online will assist Student classroom and research projects. 4.00
  • However students need to be trained to use the database correctly and to go beyond using the "Quick Search" access which is deceptively simple and is NOT adequate for all their research queries.
7. World Shakespeare Bibliography Online will assist librarian research projects. 4.00
  • Useful for compiling critical bibliographies and contributions to reference works that I write and have published.
8. Departmental funds are available for World Shakespeare Bibliography Online subscription. 1.00
  • No I would not approve the use of material funds for my subject area to pay for this resource. There are other resources that have a higher priority.
9. I would attend a World Shakespeare Bibliography Online specific training session. 4.00
10. World Shakespeare Bibliography Online should be added to UL e-Resources collection.
  • It would helpful to have this resource. However purchasing the database could be postponed because the library is under a severe fiscal constraint. There are other print and electronic resources available for Shakespeare studies. The library is in more dire need of other literature databases such as Early English Books Online which would be useful to a wider range of users.
